Wallpaper, eat your heart out!

I read magazines. Lots of them – anything from travel to fashion to art and design. One of my all time favorites is Wallpaper *www.wallpaper.com*. They always seem to be at the forefront of what’s happening next, and is a huge source of inspiration.

They share my taste and vice versa. On two occasions they have followed in my footsteps, and I take that as a huge compliment.

1) Conserveira de Lisboa is the cutest little shop in downtown Lisbon where the cutest little shop keepers take a lot of pride in providing each and every customer with a prime quality can of fish. We took this photograph in 2002, and a few years later the shop appeared in… Wallpaper!

Even if you don't like canned fish, it's worth the experience.

And whilst I’m on the subject of the wonderful neighborhood of Alfama, I’m throwing in a few more shots we took on the same day.

2) Moda Nostra is the second place where Wallpaper and I have shared footsteps. Ana is the clothes designer brain behind the shop, and she is passionate about fashion. And about Mallorca. And about creating clothes in bigger sizes than most. And about the secluded little beaches dotted around the island. And about Palma’s nightlife. And…. the list is long and it pretty much sums up the conversation I had with Ana on the day I discovered her little shop behind the cathedral. Consider it a gem, because as it turns out, the editor of Wallpaper had already been to Ana’s shop that spring, and two months later a photographer/journalist showed up to document Moda Nostra.

Visit her in Calle Pureza right behind the cathedral.
