Sweet dreams Spanish style -1

I say Spain, and chances are you start thinking about high rise buildings housing millions of sun seeking holiday makers.

Truth is, a lot of the Spanish tourist trade is still accommodated in the ugly pigeon hole hotels built in the 60′s. However, there are plenty of really charming alternatives if you don’t mind going slightly out of the tourist trek. We’ve slept our way through some very idyllic places in the south of Spain, and discovered that nothing is sweeter than a Spanish siesta in a hammock under a cork tree!

I’ll be sharing them with you one by one. First out is a romantic favorite of mine -

The cuter than cute cottage Las Barracas in the mountain village of Gaucin

The cottage is a three hundred years old shepard's shed.

If you don’t mind windy roads, then this place is pretty much heaven on Earth. It is located right outside the white washed village of Gaucin, and it’ll take you fourty minutes to drive to the coast.  The downside is you’ll need a rental car. The big bonus is that this place has nailed country chic. The surroundings are luxurious, yet subtle. We settled for the super romantic Las Barracas cottage for two, which includes this wonderful swimming pool:

However, there are also two more villas attached to the property, each housing six people. Perfect for families or friends travelling together! We popped our heads into the very spacious La Arailla, which has a master bedroom to die for!

As Eurythmics said - sweet dreams are made of this!

We are of course not the only ones who love Gaucin and this little hidden away gem… Several newspapers have already featured it like the Times and the Daily Mail who consider it to be a honeymoon hideaway.

Gaucin is a picturesque little town tucked away in the Sierra de Las Nieves, one and a half hours drive from Malaga airport

One last picture to get your travel juices flowing now that winter is upon us… here’s my better half manning himself up for a dip in the pool. Seeing this makes me wanna go back to summer, back to Gaucin, back to wearing nothing but a bikini!
